The Genesis Mission
On November 24, 2025, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order to launch The Genesis Mission, a significant initiative aimed at using artificial intelligence (AI) to accelerate scientific research. Inspired by the Apollo Program, this program seeks to unify resources from the Department of Energy and various National Laboratories, leveraging their supercomputing capabilities and comprehensive datasets. The initiative represents a comprehensive governmental effort focused on automating processes in experiment design, simulation, and predictive modeling to improve federal research and development (R&D) productivity.
The Genesis Mission takes a collaborative approach by involving key federal agencies such as the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). These partnerships are intended to use advanced AI technologies to uncover new scientific insights across diverse sectors, including energy, healthcare, and materials science. The initiative highlights the importance of data integration by proposing a closed-loop AI platform designed to streamline and enhance the efficiency of scientific inquiry.
Michael Kratsios, the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, commented on the transformative potential of this mission, emphasizing its ability to propel America into a new era of innovation. The Genesis Mission signifies a substantial investment in U.S. science and technology, ensuring that federal resources are strategically aligned to foster breakthroughs that will benefit multiple areas of society. This initiative reflects a broader commitment to advancing the nation’s scientific capabilities through the effective application of AI.
